Jade Harmony Review
Best Eco-Friendly Mat
Verdict
The Jade Harmony is the best eco-friendly yoga mat on the market. Made from natural rubber (biodegradable, no PVC), with one tree planted for every mat sold. At $85, it's the most affordable premium mat we recommend. The open-cell natural rubber provides excellent grip — especially in hot yoga — and the 4.7mm thickness is a smart compromise between cushioning and portability. The trade-offs: natural rubber has a distinct smell, is not latex-free, and the open-cell surface requires gentler cleaning than PVC mats.
Who Should Buy
- ✓Eco-conscious yogis — natural rubber, biodegradable, tree planting program
- ✓Hot yoga practitioners — open-cell rubber gets grippier with sweat
- ✓Travelers on a budget — 4.2 lbs at $85 is great value for a premium mat
- ✓Intermediate practitioners — excellent performance without the $150 price tag
Who Should Skip
- ✗Latex allergy sufferers — natural rubber contains latex proteins
- ✗Smell-sensitive users — strong rubber odor for 2-4 weeks
- ✗Knee-sensitive practitioners — 4.7mm offers less cushioning than 6mm options
Grip Performance
The open-cell natural rubber surface provides excellent grip in all conditions. In dry practice, the texture feels naturally tacky — not sticky, but secure. In hot yoga, the rubber absorbs moisture and becomes progressively grippier throughout the session. Testers reported that the Harmony felt more planted during standing balances than the Manduka PRO (which gets slippery) and comparable to the Liforme in wet grip.
The only grip complaint: the initial surface can feel slightly dusty out of the box. A quick wipe with a damp cloth resolves this immediately. Unlike the Manduka, there's zero break-in period.
Eco-Friendliness
This is JadeYoga's standout feature. The Harmony is made from natural rubber tapped from rubber trees — it's biodegradable and contains no PVC, EVA, or synthetic rubber. For every mat sold, JadeYoga plants one tree through their partnership with Trees for the Future. Since the program began, they've planted over 2 million trees. The mat is packaged in recycled cardboard with no plastic.
The eco-friendly materials do come with a shorter lifespan than PVC mats. Expect 3-5 years of regular practice before the rubber begins to degrade and lose grip. By that time, the tree you helped plant is well on its way to maturity.
